Two news stories from Winamax including Team Pro Michel Abécassis announcing his retirement, and a snazzy Who’s The King Bitches promotion from the French online poker darlings.
There are 300 nuclear weapons inside French borders, and it costs $4 billion to give them the occasional spit wash. A few days ago, as the dawn burst into view across the French skyline, a Rafale warplane launched a nuclear cruise missile during a simulation. The warhead remained under lock and key.
But that’s not the biggest news in France.
Not at all.
On a day the poker airwaves are pumping the parting of a PokerStars pairing through the amplifier with their own Rafale warplane, the French have to come to terms with the decision of Michel Abécassis to leave poker and return to his first love, Bridge.
According to an email received from the Winamax team, Abécassis was the architect of the Winamax Team Pro concept when the former doctor and journalist joined the group almost 13-years ago.
Known online under the moniker MIK22, Abécassis has been a beloved member of the Winamax team, and it was a refreshing change to read an online poker room celebrating their time with the company in the way that they did, instead of the modus operandi of allowing ambassadors to leave through social media’s backdoor.
Abécassis has earned $1,350,940 in live tournament earnings in a career that stretched back as far as 1997. In the summer, Abécassis made a deep run in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship won by Phil Galfond, finishing 11/237, and his most significant score to date came in 2010 when he came 3/142 in a €5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event at the Euro Finals of Poker, held at the now-defunct Aviation Club de France (ACF).
Abécassis has seven title wins under his belt.
He has been playing Bridge since he was 16-years-old.
