Partypoker hire Richard Dubini; Michael van Gerwen next?

Partypoker has added the Argentine professional, Richard Dubini, to their long list of ambassadors, and the Professional Darts Corporation world number one, Michael van Gerwen, makes an appearance at the World Series of Poker.

There was a time when heartless online poker rooms were finishing ambassadorial contracts like sharks on chum.

It’s a different world, today.

Partypoker hire Richard Dubini; Michael van Gerwen next?Nothing has changed, and yet everything has changed.

Partypoker announced the addition of the Argentine, Richard Dubini, to help spread the gospel throughout the Latin American market. Managing Director of partypoker, Tom Waters, spoke out in a press release about their search for a South American ambassador who could grow the brand outside of Brazil.

Dubini will work alongside partypoker Ambassador, Joao Simao, to talk to players throughout the Latin American poker circuit, acting as conduits for important player feedback.

The pair is familiar to each other.

In 2014, Dubini beat Simao in the heads-up phase of a Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) side-event that netted the Argentine $126,397, his second largest score of his career. His biggest came a year later when he bested a field of 510 entrants, including the dangerous Jack Salter in heads-up action to win a €2k side event at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona for $163,923. Dubini is ranked 10th in the Argentine All-Time Money list for live MTTs registering a million bucks in cashes.

Dubini has started life as a partypoker pro in fine fettle. The Argentine star ended Day 1b of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event with the chip lead. A few weeks ago, Dubini made the final table of the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Bounty event finishing 8th. Last year he made the final table of a $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em finishing 9th.

Dubini said he was very proud to wear the partypoker patch, and negotiations between the pair had been ongoing for a while.

Michael van Gerwen Takes a Break at the WSOP Cash Games

Moving swiftly on from a player sponsorship deal to an event sponsorship deal, and a reminder that partypoker are the primary sponsors for the upcoming partypoker US Darts Masters. The event takes place July 14-15, at the Tropicana Las Vegas Casino Hotel Resort.

If you fancy a bet, then Oddsshark.com currently has the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World No.1, Michael van Gerwen, pencilled in as the 3/4 favourite, and he has been warming up by appearing in the WSOP cash games at the Rio.

PokerListings found the Dutch darts star competing in the Kings Casino Poker Room at the Rio, where he was playing cash games alongside Steven van Zadelhoff. Van Gerwen told PokerListings that he would love to compete in the WSOP Main Event, but his darts schedule gets in the way.

Given partypoker’s interest in darts, Van Gerwen’s interest in poker, and partypoker’s trigger finger ambassadorial approach, don’t be surprised if the Dutch master joins partypoker as their 19th ambassador.

Not that Van Gerwen needs the money, he has already earned £1.8m in tournaments this year.
