PokerStars Honour Chad Brown With New Jersey Charity Event

PokerStars continue to honour Chad Brown by hosting a charity event in their inaugural live festival in New Jersey to raise funds for the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukaemia, Cancer and AIDS Research.

I have been thinking about death a lot lately. Perhaps, it’s because I have become a father again at the age of 41; maybe it’s because my old man can’t kick his smoking habit?

PokerStars Honour Chad Brown With New Jersey Charity EventI often wonder what would happen should he die?

There would be a surge of emotion. There would be tears and pangs of regret for not trying harder to help him quit. Then over time, I won’t notice his absence. There will be more tears at Christmas and his birthday, and then, eventually, nothing.

Life goes on.

We should remember the people who do so much when they are on this earth. It’s the least they deserve, and I respect PokerStars for continuing to help the community remember one of their own in Chad Brown.

Brown, a member of PokerStars Team Pro, tragically lost his battle against liposarcoma in 2014. He was only 52-years of age. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) recognised his impact on the game by making him the one and only honorary WSOP Champion. He was able to wear his bracelet shortly before he died.

Since that sad day, PokerStars have honoured him by hosting the Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament on two occasions. Last year Maria Ho acted as host as the event raised over $80,000 for the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukaemia, Cancer and AIDS Research, a charity that Brown supported when alive.

The East Coast Get to Contribute

PokerStars continue to maintain Brown’s legacy by hosting a third charity event as part of their inaugural live festival in New Jersey. The $200 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event will take place Thursday, 3 November 2016 at Resorts Casino Hotel, Atlantic City, at 8 pm local time. If you want to get there early then, cocktails are served at 7 pm.

50% of the buy-in goes to the charity with the other 50% going towards the prize pool. There will also be a $100 rebuy period for the first six levels with 50% of the rebuys also going to the charity. The Resorts Casino will also contribute $3,500 to the fund.

The prizes up for grabs are numerous, and it’s good to see input from a wide variety of tours. PokerStars are offering a $5k PokerStars Championships Bahamas package, the World Poker Tour (WPT) are offering free seats into WPT500 events, a chance to meet the crew and appear on TV, and a variety of other goodies. The Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) are offering a qualifier package to their Main Event.

Daniel Negreanu will act as host.
