Harry Lodge has taken the top prize in the Sky Poker 6-Max UK Poker Championships, after defeating Richard Hawes in heads-up action at Dusk Till Dawn, Nottingham.
Harry Lodge is the new Sky Poker 6-Max UK Poker Champion. The 21-year old economic student beat Richard Hawes in heads-up action to claim the £60,000 first prize at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham.
The event organizers slapped a £250,000 guarantee on the event; brave considering the maelstrom of activity that is currently taking place at the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Barcelona. 475 players paid the £550 buy-in and the guarantee was breached by £7,000. According to PokerNews, similar guarantees were met in the other major events throughout this festival.
Victory was Lodge’s second high profile score since he earned £575 coming third in a Grosvenor United Kingdom Poker Tour (GUKPT) side event in 2013. In October of that year he travelled to the Isle of Man to take part in the United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) Main Event. He finished fifth for £27,600. That remained his best-ever performance until taking down this bad boy.
Lodge started the final day second in chips. The only man holding more was Richard Hawes. He recently finished sixth in the £550 Grosvenor United Kingdom Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event in Leeds for £4,850, and came into the event on a high. The pair would eventually duke it out in heads-up play to determine the winner, and Lodge would find a little bit of luck to take the title when his pocket fives hit a set on the turn to beat the pocket jacks of Hawes.
