Poker loving boxing fans are in for a treat as the reigning WBA & IBF champion, Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch, has been confirmed as a player in the last chance Turbo in the WPT500 event due to take place at Dusk till Dawn later this month.

Now, thanks to partypoker, we can add the name of Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch to that list, as the reigning WBA & IBF boxing champion puts Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to the back of his mind, for at least a few days, so he can concentrate on winning the WPT500, when the World Poker Tour (WPT) UK hits Nottingham’s Dusk till Dawn (DTD) poker room on 6 Nov 2014.
Froch will be joining the Poker Hall of Famer, Mike Sexton, to utter the words ‘Shuffle Up and Deal,’ at the start of the WPT500 Day 1G Turbo event, at noon, on Sat, 15 Nov 2014, before taking a seat himself.

It’s the first time that one of poker’s big three has held a major series in the UK, in a city other than London, and Froch has promised to ‘knock you out’ if you find yourself sitting on his table.
He’s the second big name from the UK sports world to back this event, after the England and Nottingham Forest football legend, Stuart Pearce, received a poker lesson from the DTD Tournament Director (TD), Simon Trumper, at Nottingham’s Student Union.
“To see a big World Poker Tour event come to my home city is great news for everybody in Nottingham – I hope we can pack Dusk Till Dawn like we did Wembley Stadium! I’m not the most serious of poker players but with a £500 entry and the chance to win a share of at least £1 million this tournament is very accessible so I look forward to playing for partypoker. Make no mistake though, if you are at my table I want to knock you out! You never know if the poker goes well in Nottingham it could be time to take the big game to Vegas,” he said.
And why not?
Froch’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is confident that The Cobra will fight the WBC middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in a 2015 Las Vegas brawl, so why not kill two birds with one stone.

The WPT500, consisting of seven starting days, starts on Sun, 9 Nov 2014, and carries a £1m Guaranteed Prize Pool, and the £3,000 partypoker WPT UK Main Event will start on Tue, 18 Nov 2014, and also carries a £1m Guaranteed Prize Pool.
