PartyPoker to help “Restore the Shore’ after announcing a series of tournaments designed to help provide funds for New Jersey towns that are still suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy; and John Gudger wins the PartyPoker sponsored World Poker Tour (WPT) National Series in Milton Keynes.
It may have been over a year ago, but the bite marks of Hurricane Sandy are still to be seen in the coastal towns of the New Jersey shoreline, and people still struggle to return to normality, after being hit by the most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.
At the time the hurricane hit, online poker in New Jersey was nothing more than bluff and bluster, but nearly 16-months later, the former U.S online poker darlings, PartyPoker, have returned to the digital shores where they hold 50% market share in the burgeoning economy.
In a continued marketing campaign to attract even more than the 240-player rolling average, PartyPoker have announced a series of poker tournaments, in conjunction with the charity organization Hometown Heroes, that will see 50% of the entry fee donated to one of six seaside towns still recovering from the disaster: Seaside Heights, Ortley Beach, Brick, Toms River, Ocean Gate and Lavallette.
The tournaments, that cost $20 to enter, will begin on 4th Jan 2014, and PartyPoker have agreed to match every donation that heads the way of Hometown Heroes.
“Although it’s more than a year after the storm, the need is still so great for people in our community, dealing with the effects of Superstorm Sandy,” said Michael J. Schwartz, Founder and President of Hometown Heroes, in a press release. “We still have a long road ahead of us and I’m so glad that NJ.partypoker.com has stepped up to help continue those efforts for those who need it most.”
John Gudger Wins the PartyPoker Sponsored WPT National Milton Keynes
John Gudger has shown that satellite qualification still has a place in the amateur’s heart, after turning a $3 investment into £12,750 at the final WPT National Series of 2013.
Gudger achieved his first-ever live cash after defeating a field of 292 players, in the main event held at the Casino MK in Milton Keynes.
Gudger defeated Sam Goodman in heads-up action after turning his 2:1 chip lead into a title success. The trophy was thrust into Gudger’s hands after a great all-in call on a board of [6c] [6h] [3c] [3h] [5s] holding just king high. Goodman turned over ten high for the bluff and Gudger joins the likes of Roger Hairabedian, Steve O’Dwyer and WPT Champions Club member Guillaume Darcourt as a WPT National Series winner.
