‘PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams’ is well into its Macau Poker Cup (MPC) schedule and after several record-setting preliminary events, the main event is fast approaching as the HK $11,000 Red Dragon event begins this Wednesday.
In celebration of the new poker room the Red Dragon has been given a HK $5,000,000 guarantee and organizers are expecting the tournament to break it’s own 635-unique player record in Asia.
The iconic event takes place from April 24-28 and some of the biggest satellites are yet to take place at the ‘PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams’ poker room.
In side event action, Singaporean Raymond Xu won HK $346,000 after taking down Event 2: $5,500 NLH and its 310-player field. 31 players cashed for a share of the HK $1.5M in prize money.
Xu entered Monday’s Day 2 with 280k — the 2nd largest stack — and was dominate throughout as he built it to an overwhelming 2.6M chips by the time he was heads up against Aussie Ryan Yu who only held 500k.
The final hand didn’t take long to arrive as the players had a series of raise and re-raises before Yu was all-in holding Jh-9c vs. Xu’s Ks-4c.
Neither player improved as the board ran 8s-2d-Qd-8d-5c giving Xu the win with just King high.
Xu’s win moves him into No. 4 on the Asia Player of the Year rankings while runner-up Yu now sits at No. 7.
