Mobile internet usageAlmost half of the UK’s adult population uses a mobile device to access the Internet according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics. Around 45% of people asked used a mobile to get online with six million citizens using a mobile phone to get online for the first time. Use of wireless hotspots also doubled with 13% of the population using these to access the Internet. This correlates with the increased usage of mobile Internet as many providers offer deals where you can connect to hotspots.

The survey was carried out between January and March this year and showed that a total of 17.6million people in the UK use their mobiles when entering the world wide web. The fastest rate of growth was seen between the ages of 16-24 as use went from 44% to 71%. This, along with the 25-34 bracket (up to 65% from 47%), are the online gambling industry’s main demographic and a number of those with access to mobile internet will have any number of mobile gaming industry apps installed to their phones.

Online gambling industry companies with apps geared towards other mobile devices apart from will be buoyed by the 38% of people that use a portable device to access the Internet access away from home.

This news coupled with the earlier growth seen over in the US smart phone market just goes to show that our championing of the success that the mobile gambling industry continues to see is bearing more fruit than the Garden of Eden.
