Comscore data reveals huge spike in online gaming traffic

Comscore-Spike-Online-GamingThe latest monthly report by online research firm Comscore shows that online gaming sites led all other sectors in the percentage increase in unique visitors. Comscore’s September figures show the number of unique visitors logging on to gaming sites was 14,957,000, a whopping 20% increase over August’s tally of 12,468,000. By way of comparison, the #2 sector, Business/Finance, saw an increase only 8%, while Education benefited from a 6% boost from the back-to-school crowd.

Much of the credit for the spike is given to a flurry of online poker tournaments, including FullTilt’s Doubles Poker Championship and PokerStars’ WCOOP Main Event. In the individual site rankings, FullTilt ranked #1 with 4.2m visitors (+46%), then came PokerStars at 2.7m (+7%), Kingolotto at 1.4m and Absolute Poker at 1.3m.

Outside of the gaming sector, the overall top five properties for unique visitors were as follows:
1. Google sites 212,874,000
2. Yahoo sites 180,023,000
3. Microsoft sites 177,973,000
4. Facebook 148,409,000
5. AOL 104,621,000
