After France passed legislation granting its sports federations a ‘betting right’ — allowing them to demand a fee from betting companies who take action on French sports (in much the same way as they charge TV networks a broadcast rights fee) — France was awarded the Euro 2016 hosting honors. So now England, which is desperately trying to land the World Cup in 2018, is considering passing its own ‘betting right’ legislation, in the hopes that it will be similarly rewarded.
