President of Nigeria hands World Cup team 2-year red card

Outside of Ghana, none of the other African squads made a very good showing in the first ever World Cup to take place on their home continent, but Nigeria’s team is alone in having been banned from participating in any international competition for the next two years by Nigerian president Goodluck (‘Goodbye’ might be more appropriate) Johnathan. Another president, FIFA head Sepp Blatter, isn’t thrilled by such governmental interference in the affairs of sport, whether in Nigeria or in France, where wounded Gallic pride is prompting talk of official investigations into how French ‘balls’ went astray.
