There’s been a lot of talk coming out of the G2E Asia about how Japan is set to become the next big Asian gambling market but there appear to be some serious cultural hurdles that need to be overcome first. For instance, the fact that a bunch of sumo wrestlers are about to be kicked out of their chosen profession for betting on… baseball? Seriously? How does betting on baseball affect the integrity (such as it is) of sumo wrestling? Personally, we don’t get it, but maybe our lack of appreciation for the severity of this attitude speaks to this whole acculturation thing and the need to walk a mile in another (very fat) man’s moccasins before making snap judgments.
