As we reported recently, State Senator Rod Wright was planning to introduce the long-awaited bill authorising the creation of an intrastate online poker system in California today. But so desperate is the Sunshine State to reduce its budget deficit that he rushed it through late on Friday. The bill has been designated as an urgency measure, which means it will go into effect immediately upon legislative passage and signature by the Governor, rather than having to wait to go into effect until 1 January 2011. So now it’s just a matter of waiting for to see how long it takes for Arnold Schwarzenegger to put down his barbells and find his favourite pen. Word has it he was last seen heading for the stationery cupboard mumbling, “Scheisse” and “I’ll be back”. Read more.
