Niels Folmann, director of Denmark gambling monopoly Danske Spil, said the Danish government is mulling whether it would follow the move of the United Kingdom in enacting a ban on gambling ads during live sports events on television. In justifying the move, Folmann said the status quo has “reached a point where it makes sense to discuss whether we should let viewers watch the match in peace, and promote our commercial messages at other times.” Since December, betting adverts have been prohibited five minutes before kickoff and five minutes after the end of a live sports event.
