The Story

CBS CEO Lee Moonves is betting that sports wagering will provide a huge boost for its advertising revenue, saying that its sports websites are set to get huge gains from gambling ads.

Moonves said that sports betting sparked a “local phenomenon.”

The CBS top official said that with the recent reversal of the federal sports betting ban, “a whole new ad category as well as drive demand across our sports-related content” was created. With the sports betting now legalized in New Jersey, Moonves believes that stations covering the state will likely see an increase in revenue. A recent report by Morgan Stanley revealed that around $1b in paid sports betting-related ads could be seen by 2023, and CBS will likely rake in millions in profit.
