The Story

The legal sports betting bill has been approved by the New Jersey Assembly and Senate and is now at the desk of Gov. Phil Murphy waiting for his signature.

But Murphy seems to be not inclined to sign the bill immediately.

Governor Murphy might use the betting bill in the looming fight for the state budget. This conclusion was premised on the fact that after the bill was unanimously approved by both chambers, Murphy’s office issued a statement which said that the governor “looks forward to closely reviewing” the wagering legislation” to see if it is “fair and reasonable.”

Not giving up hope, pro sports leagues have urged the governor to “fix” the legislation by including “basic protections to mitigate risks to the integrity of sports and to ensure fairness for New Jersey consumers”–which basically means they are asking for the inclusion of the integrity fee.
