The Story

Melco CEO Lawrence Ho has finally broken his silence about the fallout of the company's relationship with PokerStars, saying that the live poker business “was never profitable.”

It was fun while it lasted.

In an interview during an exclusive preview of Melco's upscale hotel Morpheus, Ho said that the company's “big collaboration” with PokerStars since 2013 was deemed to have run its course. He added that the PokerStars club “was taking up gaming tables and taking up space.”

Without poker, Ho said that Melco will be experimenting with new segments. He revealed that they plan to open “a dedicated eSports stadium” at MRE's Studio City property in Macau “hopefully before the end of the year.”
