The Story

The Greek Supreme Court has approved the extradition order of Russian national Alexander Vinnik to the United States where he is charged for laundering more than $4 billion through BTC-e.

This is the latest in the tug-of-war for Vinnik's custody.

U.S. and Russia are both seeking to gain custody of Vinnik. However, it is up to the Greek justice minister to make the final decision on Vinnik's fate. Should it be decided that the 38-year-old Russian national be sent to the U.S., he could spend up to 55 years in jail on charges of operating unlicensed money service business and 17 counts of money laundering and related money crimes.
