History was made as a new cryptocurrency called Bitcoin Cash was created after a group of miners split off from the main bitcoin blockchain.

Bitcoin Cash is a project of some SegWit2X's backers who took matters into their own hands after they have lost confidence in the proposal that will combine Bitcoin Core’s Segregated Witness and a block size increase.

First, SegWit2X will send transactions off-chain and increase the block size to 2MB while Bitcoin Cash will increase the block size to 8MB and remove SegWit. Second, since Bitcoin Cash has started the same main bitcoin blockchain, those who own coins in the main bitcoin blockchain will have the same number of coins in the new Bitcoin Cash blockchain.

Australian academic and inventor Dr. Craig Wright has praised Bitcoin Cash as it seeks “to achieve a truly decentralized, peer-to-peer electronic cash with higher, more efficient transaction capacity.” While Brave New Coin co-founder and CEO Fran Strajnar said that “the [Bitcoin Cash] network needs further support and infrastructure needs to be as easy as bitcoin; otherwise it's over.”

The introduction of Bitcoin Cash is the culmination of the years-long scaling debate within the bitcoin community. With this, the bitcoin network's capacity is set to grow and will open more opportunities for the cryptocurrency to develop.
