This is the day for anyone involved with horse. The dream is to win the Kentucky Derby, because there's nothing like it.

  Melco’s on a roll

The Story
Casino operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment (MRE) is on a winning streak after it reported that it has generated revenue of $1.277b from January to March 31, 2017, a 16% increase over the same period last year.

Wow! How did MRE get those numbers?

It can be traced to three factors: first, Studio City’s revenue went up to nearly $100m to $278m and its earnings tripled to $67.8m; second, Macau’s VIP gaming sector is on a roll; and lastly, Melco’s Manila property—City of Dreams Manila—experienced gains in its revenue and earnings.

Luck is really smiling on Melco’s way right now.

We can say that’s the case. But Melco’s other Macau properties couldn’t say the same. Atira Macau reported a flat revenue of $109m while Mocha Clubs slots business also stayed at $31.1 m.

Of course, we know who really cashed in with Melco’s upsurge.

It’s no other than MRE CEO Lawrence Ho. You can just imagine him doing a celebratory dance as MRE’s gains happened after his Melco International Development acquired majority control of the firm last December.

Takeaway

The first three months of 2017 have been good to MRE. With the numbers clearly better than what analysts expected, Ho is reportedly opening a celebratory champagne somewhere.
