This week saw lots of exciting action, with the AL Wild Card race tightening and the Mets totally crapping the bed against the Cubs. We’ll follow Oakland today as they continue to build on their Wild Card position, and peek back at the NL playoff race, where four key teams are going into the weekend with interesting matchups. We look at the odds once again care of Bovada.
The Brewers (+128 ML) are quietly hanging on to a hope of a playoff spot, but they’ll have to beat the Cubs (-148) if they want to stay relevant. The Cubs, coming off their sweep against the Mets, will go with José Quintana (11-8, 4.05 ERA) against Milwaukee’s Chase Anderson (6-3, 4.34 ERA). Can the Brewers beat a Chicago team that has won 8 of 10? Quintana is a good candidate to beat, as he’s fresh off a loss to Washington. Anderson also has looked good lately, so bet on the Brewers to narrow the gap here.
The Athletics (+1.5 -145 RL, +125 ML) are hoping they can silence Aaron Judge and the Yankees (-1.5 +125 RL, -145 ML) to maintain their lead over Tampa Bay. Brett Anderson (10-9, 4.08 ERA) gets the nod as Oakland faces off against CC Sabathia (5-8, 4.99 ERA). This looks like a solid chance for a win for Oakland, who swept the Yankees last time they faced off. Bet on them despite the line, and the over. (O/U 11.0)
Finally, the Mets (+1.5 -170 RL, +116 ML) are hoping to end their skid and catch back up with Chicago a little bit as they face the Phillies (-1.5 +150 RL, -136 ML). The Mets will start Zack Wheeler (9-7, 4.46 ERA) against the Phillies Aaron Nola (12-4, 3.53 ERA). Both of these teams want to break back into the Wild Card picture, but this matchup slightly favors the Phillies. Bet on them and the under, and have a nice weeknd! (O/U 8.5)
