It was a big weekend for baseball. The Red Sox showed they might still be in it this season by taking 3 of 4 from the Yankees, and the Brewers and Dodgers each won their series against the Cubs and Nationals, respectively. Most impressive of all, I went 9-0 on my Friday picks, so we start this week by taking another look at the MLB odds, care of Bovada.
We’re sticking with the Nationals(-1.5 +130 RL, -147 ML), who after losing their series to the first place Dodgers will now host the division leading Atlanta Braves (+1.5 RL -150 RL, +127 ML). Left hander Patrick Corbin (8-5, 3.25 ERA) starts for the Nats, and he’s been nearly unbeatable against them. They face another lefty in Dallas Keuchel (3-3, 3.50 ERA) who has yet to win against Washington in his career. I like Washington for the moneyline here with the under. (O/U 9.5).
Let’s turn to a series that’s wrapping up as the Miami Marlins(+1.5 -180 RL, -110 ML) and Arizona Diamondbacks (-1.5 +160 RL, -110 ML) play the fourth game in Florida.Miami is hoping to win the series with Caleb Smith (6-4, 3.30 ERA) on the mound against the D-Backs Merrill Kelly (7-10 4.22 ERA). While the Marlins are trash generally, they’re handling Arizona pretty well and Smith shows a lot of promise, so I like them with the over here (O/U 8).
Finally, we turn to two teams who have given up any semblance of hope on the season as the Royals (-1.5 +150 RL, -118 ML) host Toronto (+1.5 -170 RL, -102 ML). Thomas Pannone (2-4, 6.39 ERA), who hasn’t had a winning decision for the Jays since June 4, faces Brad Keller (7-9, 3.95 ERA) who hasn’t had a loss since June 20. Hesitantly, I’d take the Brewers to win big over the Jays as a result, and I love the over (O/U 10.0).
Tonin’s record last article: 9-0 (I just wanted to highlight this again, in case it wasn’t clear earlier.)
Tonin’s record this season: 12-6
