Some are saying this is a complete Oklahoma team. No, no team is complete in any sport. That said, Oklahoma is a solid team in almost every category. Oklahoma holds the nation’s best combined ranking (24) in scoring offense (No. 3) and scoring defense (No. 21), and are the only FBS team that ranks in the top 35 nationally in points per game, points allowed per game, yards per game (7th), yards allowed per game (31st), rushing yards per game (17th), passing yards per game (18th), sacks per game (4th), interceptions per game (7th), turnover margin (14th) and net punting average (7th).
In 2014, Oklahoma was ranked 117th in pass defense (276.2 ypg), but this season rank 34th (201.5 ypg). This statistic is after they played Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State, which are currently ranked second, ninth, 20th and seventh in the nation.
Both teams own flamboyant quarterbacks, signal callers who did not play when the Tigers and Sooners met last year in the Russell Athletic Bowl. Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield are both in the top 15 in the nation in completion percentage, passing efficiency, touchdown passes, total offense and points responsible for.
The Tigers have the best defensive completion percentage in the country at .461 surpassing Alabama’s .468 back in 2009.
