San Jose State vs. Georgia State
Orlando | Orlando Citrus Bowl
7 pm EST on CBSSN
Georgia State’s Quarterback Nick Arbuckle leads the Sun Belt and ranks sixth in FBS in passing yards (346.7 pg). He is also first in the league in total offense (340.3pg/8thFBS) and completion percentage (64.1) while ranking second in touchdown throws (26) and pass efficiency (154.5). Arbuckle has already broken his own Georgia State season records for passing yards, completions, total offense and touchdown responsibility while tying his mark for TD passes.
From week 4 to 8 their rushing attack was “grounded” by multiple injuries averaging just 51 yards per game, but between week 9 and now it is up to 126 yards per encounter which has sparked their best winning streak of their season at 4. This has been assisting the passing game tremendously.
The Georgia State defense continues to show improvement, fueling the Panthers’
four-game winning streak. The Panther defense has held five straight opponents, and
six of its last six, to 23 points or fewer. Over the last five games, the Panthers are allowing
16.0 points, 323.8 total yards and 140.8 yards rushing per game.
The 2015 San José State team is the first Spartan squad since 2006 to gain at least 2,000 yards rushing in a season. San José State faces Boise State with 2,043 yards and is averaging 185.7 rushing yards a game this season. Four times this season (New Hampshire, Fresno State, New Mexico and Nevada), San José State rushed for at least 200 yards in a game.
Spartan quarterback Kenny Potter ranks ninth nationally and first in the Mountain West with a 68.5 percent pass completion rate.
The Spartans are second nationally in fewest passing yards allowed per game (153.6). In 2015, San José State topped the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in fewest passing yards allowed per game for seven week.
The Bottom Line: This matchup comes down to the GSU’s helmsman versus the Spartan defense.
The betting public is correct when moving the money line in GEORGIA ST games 69.7% of the time since 1992. (23-10)
