brooks-injury-threatens-philadelphia-eagles-season2Philadelphia Eagles right guard Brandon Brooks will play no part in the 2020/21 NFL season after tearing his left Achilles tendon, the 30-year-old player announced today.

The impact of Brooks’ injury on the Philadelphia Eagles is expected to be huge, with the Eagles going for more offensive players in the NFL Draft, which this year went out in an online format. The Eagles took on two Auburn offensive lineman in Jack Driscoll and Prince Tega Wonogh during the draft.

Brooks will almost certainly miss the entire NFL season, coming as a huge blow to the player himself, whose injury history is a painful list of recent knocks taking their toll. Brooks injured his other Achilles back in 2018, in a playoffs game against the New Orleans Saints, but he was working on a return to full fitness in the off-season before this season, with a shoulder problem hindering Brooks’ progress until this week.

At that point, Brooks did his other Achilles. Awful luck, and the man himself took to Twitter to explain the situation to his fans.

“So I guess now that news is out,” he said. “Yes, I tore my other Achilles but when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. I’ll be back and better than ever. Appreciate the love.”

Brooks will be sorely missed, having competed in the last 48 consecutive regular season games for the Philadelphia Eagles. He made 95% of the offensive snaps in that period, so will be a glaring hole. Could that hole be filled by a previous pick, however?

Earlier this year, Jason Peters, the experienced tackle player, was let go by The Eagles, but he is still a free agent and could be brought back into the fold.

The timing might be awful from a seasonal perspective for Brooks, but in contract terms, the one he signed back in November which was worth a reported $54 million, will at least keep him financially protected.

The Washington Redskins are 12/5 to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the first gameweek when the NFL returns. In what is a close two-horse to win the NFC East, The Eagles are around 7/5, but this makes the Dallas Cowboys an even better than they already were at 11/10.

Brooks’ absence may not be felt fully until the first offensive snap of the new season, but the Philadelphia Eagles are bound to miss a player of his calibre.
