If you tuned in to read our first MLB odds article of the season, you learned one thing very quickly: I’m not very good at choosing MLB bets. Unlike the Tampa Bay Rays though, I’m not ready to give up on baseball just yet, so let’s try picking some interesting games and smart bets once again, with odds care of Bovada.
The Red Sox (+1.5 -130 RL, +113 ML) take on the Yankees (-1.5 +110, -133) for game 2 of their series after the Sox beat the pants off of New York in Game 1, 19-3. With James Paxton (5-5, 4.20 ERA) looking rough in his last outing, I’m expecting the Red Sox to continue their momentum and pick up another big win, with the over (O/U 11.5).
Let’s turn to the senior circuit and look at the Nationals (+1.5 -110 RL, +151 ML) hosting the Dodgers (-1.5 -110 RL, -176 ML). Neither team comes in terribly hot, and I expect the Dodgers will easily come away with the win on the back of Hyun-Jin Ryu (11-2, 1.76 ERA). With Annibal Sanchez (6-6, 3.80) not being too much of a slouch himself and having won his last 6 decisions straight, I like the under as well (O/U 9.0).
Finally, the Cubs (-1.5 +140 RL, -112 ML) visit Milwaukee (+1.5 -160, -108) for the first match of 6 in the next two weeks. The evenly matches teams are only two games apart in the standings, so this series will mean a lot to the eventual outcome of the NL Central. With Kyle Hendricks (7-8, 3.41 ERA) struggling on the road this season, and Gio Gonzales (2-1, 3.60 ERA) having a 4-3 lifetime record against the Cubs, I have to give a slight advantage to the Brewers, picking them for the money line, but not the runline, and favoring the under (O/U 9.5).
I’ll be back Monday with some more highlighted odds, but if you want a quick look at the weekend, I’ll just say I think the Yankees look good to rebound on Saturday, with Chris Sale winning the series for the Red Sox on Sunday night. But if I’m wrong, let’s not count that against me, please.
Tonin’s record this season: 3-6
