After what might have been the game of the year, the New York Yankees move on to play their old arch-rival in the Boston Red Sox, while the Minnesota Twins move on to much easier competition in the Chicago White Sox. Elsewhere in the league, the Oakland A’s and Texas Rangers jockey for position in the AL West. We’re taking a look at the matchups thanks to odds care of Bovada.
Starting with the big rivalry, the Yankees (-1.5 +120 RL, -127 ML) continue to look like a solid bet off of their momentum from the Twins match. The Red Sox (+1.5 -135 RL, +130) will have Rick Porcello (8-7, 5.61 ERA) on the mound opposite Masahiro Tanaka (7-5, 4.00 ERA). The last time they faced off in London, they both got smashed in the first inning, but the Yankees did more damage to the Sox bullpen. The safe bet here definitely looks like Yankees across the board with the over (O/U 11 runs).
Moving over to the Chicago, the Twins (-1.5 +115 RL, -153 ML) are looking to rebound after their heartbreaking loss, and they couldn’t ask for a better opponent than the White Sox (+1.5 -135 RL, +133 ML). Jose Berrios (8-5, 2.96 ERA) takes the mound for the visiting team against Lucas Giolito (11-4, 3.12 ERA). This should be a fascinating pitcher’s duel as both are in fine form. I like Chicago to cover, the Twins to win, and take the under (O/U 8.5).
The Rangers (+1.5 -130 RL, -+151 ML) have been a disaster since the All-Star break, going for 1 win and 9 losses in their last 10. They visit Oakland (-1.5 +110 RL, -176 ML) for a four game series. Ariel Jurado (5-6, 4.92 ERA) faces off against the A’s Brett Anderson (9-5, 3.82 ERA). While neither team is particularly hot, Oakland hasn’t been playing quite so much like trash lately, and they’re at home, so take them with the under (O/U 9.5) as neither team has been lighting it up recently.
