Stars and party prepare for a bumper May with over $100m in online guarantees

Online poker players are in for a May treat after PokerStars announced plans to guarantee $65m in prize money during the Spring Championship of Online Poker, and partypoker announced $40m for their second POWERFEST of the year.

Stars and party prepare for a bumper May with over $100m in online guaranteesAfter watching a topless Joey Ingram multi-tabling online amidst a table full of snack food crap, I worry about the state of the poker community throughout May.

Bill Perkins had better get his cheque book out.

The Ultimate Sweat could be back in play with so many poker players feasting on fast food junk as PokerStars and partypoker give them over $100 million reasons to never leave the house.

First, let’s begin with PokerStars and the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). The largest online poker room this side of the £100 per month gas bill sticking two fingers up at me, is celebrating a decade of SCOOP madness by offering a record $65m in guarantees, $10m more than last year.

Between May 6-21, the tried and trusted format stands solidly with 61 events, divided into Low, Medium and High tiers, creating 183 games with buy-ins ranging between $2.20 to $25,000. There will be three leaderboards: High ($10k to the winner), Medium ($7.5k) and Low ($5k), and a million dollar guaranteed event, daily.

The one difference this year (apart from the additional $10m) is the introduction of the $30,000 Platinum Pass. PokerStars is awarding five of the little beauties, including one apiece for the Low, Medium and High Main Event winners, one for the overall SCOOP Leaderboard winner, and one for the winner of a unique All-In Shootout Challenge.

2017 SCOOP was a record-breaker with $93m shared across 57 events, making a mockery of the $55m guarantee, so I don’t think PokerStars has to worry about the $65m price tag.

Look on the bright side, if they fail to hit the bullseye on this one they can always rerun it.

Here is the full schedule.

Partypoker Promise $40m in POWERFEST Guarantees

Moving on from PokerStars to partypoker and Patrick Leonard and his team of wizards have been busy piecing together what he believes to be the most ‘varied’, ‘exciting’ and ‘fun’ POWERFEST ever.

The $40m guaranteed event is the second POWERFEST of the year. All we know for now is there will be $40m in guarantees spread over 366 games. There will be 17 Championship events, each carrying a $1m+ guarantee.

Set this date in your diary.

6-20 May.

The schedule will follow in the coming week. Leonard promises more Six-Max, PLO and High Rollers.

Jason Koon said he doesn’t know who keeps coming up with these guarantees?

Maybe the lad is a little isolated over there in America.
