The shortlists for the 2017 EGR Italy Awards are out, and Sisal Group, Eurobet, and The Stars Group feature prominently.
Online gambling in Italy is thriving, and in three weeks time, those in the know will laud praise on the online gambling companies who have contributed to the growth the most in the past 12-months.
On the 23 October, the leading lights in the Italian online gambling space will meet at the Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria, Italy, for the EGR Italy Awards Ceremony.
The undoubted star of the show is the Sisal Group, and it should be. The Italian online gambling company, acquired by CVC Capital Partners in a €1 billion deal back in 2016, is the oldest gambling company licensed by the Italian government with a history dating back to 1946. The judges have shortlisted Sisal for nine awards including Casino Operator, Mobile Operator and the coveted Operator of the Year award. Last year, Sisal won the Customer Services Operator and Socially Responsible Operator Award.
Bringing up the rear are Eurobet and The Stars Group.
The Gala Coral Group owned Eurobet appears on six shortlists, including the three mentioned above. Last year, they were the stars of the show winning the awards for Best Marketing Campaign, Mobile Operator, and the Operator of the Year.
The Stars Group didn’t win diddly-squat last year but will be vying for contention in five categories including the Best Marketing Campaign, Poker Operator, and Operator of the Year. The Italian online poker market was about to become something special after gaming regulators in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy agreed to share liquidity, only for Italian politician Franco Mirabelli to potentially put the kibosh on the notion.
Mirabelli is concerned that joining forces with the other nations increases the likelihood that the new regime will be a hive of money laundering activities. The Stars Group will be hoping it’s nothing but bluster.
