TCOOP pays out over $22 million; $3.4 million Main Event prize pool largest ever
ONCHAN, Isle of Man – February 1, 2017 – When ‘maxv2’ won the PokerStars Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) 2017 $215 Main Event for $489,075.72 the player topped not only the list of most money won by a player in this series, but the all time list of biggest TCOOP prize won ever. The record prize pool stood at $3,413,377, the largest ever seen in a TCOOP event. The series attracted more than 215,000 entries in total and paid out more than $23 million across the 66 events which took place online at PokerStars, an Amaya Inc. (NASDAQ: AYA; TSX: AYA) brand.
BIG WINS ALL ROUND
By popular demand, the final weekend’s schedule also included a low stakes Main Event to accompany the $1,000 buy-in Main Event. The inaugural $27 Hold’em Main Event Turbo, Low-Stakes Edition was contested by 23,662 entrants, which was the largest field of all 66 events. The winner, ‘posetuta’, scooped $52,367.61 – not a bad return for a $27 buy-in.
On the other end of the spectrum, the High Roller event buy-in was increased to $3,000, and 569 entries battled for a share of the $1,625,712.66 prize pool. The UK’s ‘vicenfish’ was victorious, winning $287,969.33. However, the day belonged to ‘maxv2’, whose victory in the Main Event over a field of 3,583 players secured the spot at the top of the TCOOP earnings tree.
PLAYER OF THE SERIES
The TCOOP Player of the Series title went to ‘caprioli’ who topped the leaderboard with 400 points thanks to three final table finishes (the most this year), including taking the title for TCOOP-11: $82 PL Omaha [6-Max, Progressive KO tournament]. ‘caprioli’ also tops TCOOP’s all-time list of Most Final Tables. The player adds $10,000 to their winnings and a $1,000 ticket to the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event, meaning more chances to shine when SCOOP rolls around. Second place went to ‘Lena900’, who won $5,000 cash and a $1,000 SCOOP Main Event ticket.
PRO POWER
PokerStars Team Pros’ success was spearheaded by Liv Boeree who finished 5th out of 1,733 entrants in TCOOP-25: $700 NL Hold’em [Turbo, Progressive KO (50%)]. Boeree was the last British player standing in the event and won $24,150.86 plus $12,949.21 in bounty payments. It started a successful week for the British pro who also won £6,280 in the PokerStars Festival London £2,200 High Roller, taking place on January 24 and 25.
The winner of the final ever Latin American Poker Tour event, sponsored by PokerStars, in November, Nacho ‘PokerLoans1’ Barbero, took his skills to the online felt for TCOOP placing 5th in TCOOP-37: $320 NL Hold’em [Turbo, Fat Tuesday SE] for $26,118.19.
