Lee Davy brings you updates from the World Series of Poker Main Event as nine players battle it out for the title of poker’s Champion of the World and $8m in prize money.
Vojtech Ruzicka started this final table better than anyone picking up successive pots to move into second place behind Qui Nguyen.
Then this happened.
Gordon Vayo opened to 2,300,000 on the button, Vojtech Ruzicka three-bet to 8,150,000 in the small blind, the big blind folded and Vayo made the call. The flop was [Qc] [8d] [3c]; Ruzicka bet 6,150,000 and Vayo made the call. The turn was the [7h] and Ruzicka fired a double barrel worth 11,400,000 and Vayo once again made the call. The river card was the [5s]; Ruzicka moved all-in for 27,850,000, and Vayo made the call.
Showdown
Vayo: [8c] [8s]
Ruzicka: [As] [Kd]
Vayo had flopped a set of eights, and Ruzicka had gone crazy with the semi-bluff at the wrong time with only ace high.
That hand put Vayo into the chip lead and left Ruzicka on fumes. He put his final 700,000 into the middle in the next hand and Qui Nguyen raised to 5,000,000 to isolate.
Showdown
Nguyen: [Ah] [Qh]
Ruzicka: [Ad] [7s]
Board: [6d] [4s] [2s] [5s] [4d]
Despite picking up spade outs and straight draw outs on the turn, Ruzicka was out in fifth place.
