Tom Holke has won the Eureka5 Hamburg Main Event after defeating his compatriot Alexander Lemme in heads-up action at the Spielbank Schenefeld Casino in Hamburg.
Tom Holke is the newest Eureka Poker Tour champion.
The 44-year old from Berlin defeated his fellow countryman Alexander Lemme in a short but sweet heads-up encounter that lasted a mere 12-hands, to round off a great start to Eureka life on German soil.
The 10-day festival featured 14-tournaments, and created €1,103,896 in prize money. It was the first time a Eureka Poker Tour event had taken place on German soil. It won’t be the last.
581 players entered the €1,100 Main Event, and despite most of the world’s greatest players playing their poker in a Las Vegas desert, there were a few top Europeans who hung around to see this one out first.
European Poker Tour (EPT) Player of the Year, and Global Poker Index (GPI) World Number One, Ole Schemion was in the field. As was the most prolific marksman on the planet right now: GPI Player of the Year leader Dzmitry Urbanovich.
So it was tough, especially for a man who views poker as nothing more than a hobby. Holke started Day 2 as the chip leader, and by the time he had paved his way to the final two spots, he was holding a 6:1 chip lead. You can’t let advantages like that slide. Holke didn’t.
It was the second event of the fifth season of the Eureka Poker Tour. It was also a record breaker, attracting the most unique entries ever in a Eureka Main Event. The Main Event created a €563,570 prize pool, and 87 players got paid.
