PokerStars Sunday Warm has just grabbed the ‘value laden online event of the year’ tag after a technical cock-up closed off late registration to the event despite it carrying a $500,000 Guaranteed prize pool.
If you fancy a job working in PokerStars then get on the blower because I think a position may just have opened up.
Someone has just dropped the clanger of all clangers as some sort of programming error sealed off any potential for late registration in this weekend’s Sunday Warm Up.
The door shut tight on 1,204 players, who had registered early for the event, leaving a further 2,000+ peering into a crowd of happy faces all enjoying an overlay in the region of a quarter of a million dollars.
The event usually attracts a field of 3,000+ players and many more were expected after Stars had raised the temperature a little by offering a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.
The lessened field meant the final table was reached in only eight hours and KeyserMM walked away with the first prize of $85,000.
Speaking on the 2+2 forum PokerStars Steve advised the posters that they were not ‘technically able to re-open registration after the tournament had started and registration had closed,” before going on to say. “Our apologies to those who wanted to play the event but couldn’t. We are looking into the cause urgently to mitigate any possibility of a similar problem affecting additional tournaments.
“In addition to wanting to serve as many customers as possible with their planned Sunday tournament schedule, there is also a ‘small’ financial motivation to ensure this error isn’t repeated in our other tournaments later today.”
Some posters were wondering if the gaff ranked as the largest overlay in tournament history, but I think that honor goes to the International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT) who generated a €589,000 overlay in their inaugural outing at Wembley Stadium back in June 2013.
