The online gambling industry has produced some colorful PR stunts throughout its history, with brands such as GoldenPalace.com, Bodog and Paddy Power springing to mind. 2013 may not have been a vintage year for PR stunts, but as usual our friends at Paddy Power pulled through with some real zingers and then of course there was the Spielo G2 wildcard…
5) Paddy Power Italia PSY Parody
Paddy Power Affiliate Manager and PR stunt king Antonio Bello Dentro has done it again. You may remember this Italian Stallion as the BAC 2012 Paddy Power streaker, but this time he’s impersonating PSY in a viral video celebrating the one year anniversary of Paddy Power Italia. This work of art was picked up by several Italian newspapers and enjoyed by Paddy Power affiliates and friends worldwide.
4) Rangers & Ayr United jerseys painted on topless models
The Belgium website hln.be featured photos of models Chloe and Bianca “wearing” Rangers and Ayr United jerseys, just before the start of the Scottish second division. From the looks of those “titillating” pictures, the stunt has something to do with the Bodog brand, proud shirt sponsors of Ayr United.
3)Paddy Power & Dennis Rodman
Dennis Rodman is no stranger to the online gambling industry, a man who made his debut with GoldenPalace.com back in the pre-UIGEA heyday. Almost a decade later, Rodman has joined forces with Paddy Power, his first assignment visiting the Vatican to encourage bystanders to place bets on the next elected pope and second to host the “Paddy Power Dennis Rodman Invitational”, a basketball tourney taking place in North Korea.
2) Paddy Power Kim Jong-un YouTube Advert
Paddy Power’s “Chairman Kim” YouTube Advert is pure genius. Balancing just on the border of hilarious and inappropriate, this TV ad sensation features a puppet version of Kim Jong-un who has aligned with the new Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio. Watching the puppet’s “Five Point Plan” for Sunderland’s Premiership survival is well worth the 1 minute and 42 seconds out of your life, even if you have no idea what the hell Sunderland is.
1)Murder at ICE: Spielo G2 CSI stunt
The “Murder at ICE” stunt by GTECH (Spielo G2 at the time) was PR creativity that the iGaming industry had never seen before.Leading up to ICE 2013, five “suspects” were interrogated for the “murder” of industry icon Michael Caselli, all of which can be viewed at MurderAtIce.com. The crime scene was recreated at the Spielo G2 booth and delegates dropped by to vote on the murderer and check out the new CSI online slot game.
