Soccer Saturday Super6

The wait is nearly over! For the millions of footy fans who’ve missed their weekly Barclays Premier League football fix, there’s no better way to get their football juices flowing again than to play Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday Super 6 for the 2011/12 season.

The ultimate test of Barclays Premier League football knowledge, the free-to-enter game is back with a bang this season. Super 6 have decided to double the weekly jackpot for the first week of the season to a whopping £200,000. Yes, that’s £200,000! So, if players correctly predict the scores of the six selected matches on Saturday, August 13thBlackburn Rovers v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham v Aston Villa, Liverpool v Sunderland, QPR v Bolton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur v Everton and Wigan Athletic v Norwich City – they’re in for a treat!

Over £1m has been snaffled by Super 6 punters since the game’s launch and the 750,000 registered players scooped more than £400,000 of prize money last season. Players who want to hit the jackpot just like Super 6er Peter Townly, who scooped the £100,000 prize on the antepenultimate week of last season, might want to check out the following top tips on how to be a Super 6 winner, courtesy of the Soccer Saturday’s Super 6 boffins (*):

  • A 2-0 home win and a 1-1 home draw were the most common scorelines in Super 6 games last season.
  • The best team to back in 0-0 draws are Fulham and Blackburn with 18 and 15 scoreless draws respectively over the last three seasons. Spurs surprisingly come in third, with 12 nil-nils
  • The best team to back in score draws is Everton, with a whopping 31 over the last 3 years. Villa and Wigan follow with 25 and 22 respectively
  • The team that win by three clear goals the most are, not surprisingly, Chelsea and Manchester United, both with a total of 24 over the last three seasons
  • Beware the autumn, as September and November are the months of the year where the old onion bag bulges the most. September games have averaged no less than 3.03 goals per game over the last three seasons, with November close behind on 2.87

Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme is the place where Super 6 players can tune in to find out if they’ve won the top weekly prize. Soccer Saturday’s lead presenter and all-round broadcasting legend, Jeff Stelling, has his own thoughts on the Super 6 season ahead: “With 1063 Barclays Premier League goals banged in last season, and a fascinatingly unpredictable campaign where any team could beat another on their day, we’re confident that the Soccer Saturday Super 6 will be more exciting than ever for the 2011/12 season.

“And lucky Super 6 players will have even more rewards with our special jackpot of £200,000 on the opening day of the Premier League season.

“We play it in the Sky offices and I’m pleased to say that I beat Jamie Redknapp and Ed Chamberlin hands down every week!”
