Women in a man's world? I don't think so!

Women in a man's world? I don't think so!Back in April I spoke with event organizer Colin Thompson about how Women in Gaming came to be, what it represents, how things were going, and why the industry should attend. Four months later Clever Duck Media’s idea has ballooned into a highly anticipated celebration including a conference and networking day plus an awards ceremony and gala later in the evening.

Women in a man's world? I don't think so!The purpose of Women in Gaming (WIG) is to recognize the exceptional women in the land based and online gaming industry and the amazing work they have done in an industry full of testosterone. The igaming industry may be male dominated, but it certainly is not just a man’s world…across eight WIG award categories, there have been approximately 100 women nominated (including CalvinAyre.com CEO Fawn Labrie and yours truly!!!), so clearly us women are doing something right.

The Women in Gaming Conference and Networking Event will kick off a 15 hour marathon of estrogen-injected festivities on 24 September at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel. The conference will include sessions on career opportunities in the gaming industry, marketing in the gaming industry, mobile gaming, social media, and plenty opportunities to network during refreshment breaks, lunch, and at the post conference cocktail reception. Speakers include women from Europe, Asia and the US who represent very successful land based and online gaming companies.

After the conference and several hours of freshening up and cocktailing, the red carpet will come out and mark the commencement of the Women and Gaming Awards. The champagne and networking reception will run from 7-8pm followed by a three course meal, and the award presentations begin shortly after. Eight awards will be delivered to exceptional women in the industry in addition to the “Man Championing Women in Business Award” which will go to a man who has shown a commitment in the development and success of women in the gaming industry. The entire awards ceremony will be held in support of Unicef and Breakthrough Breast Cancer, so in addition to recognizing excellent achievement, all attendees will be recognizing and supporting two very good causes.

The CalvinAyre.com team and I are truly looking forward to attending this event, reporting on the conference and the awards, and interviewing nominees and sponsors on the red carpet. And who knows ladies…if you’re lucky, maybe I can convince Calvin to equip me with some male models this time…I don’t know, something like the bartender I had at the Bodog Compound in Costa Rica. We will see…
