Governor Christie backtracks on NJ gambling support

Only last week we reported how the New Jersey Gaming, Sports and Entertainment Advisory Commission had been granted an extension to the deadline for its report for Governor Chris Christie on how best to maximise the state’s horseracing and casino industries. But even before the report has been submitted Christie has said that he will not be joining Senator Raymond Lesniak’s legal battle to bring sports betting to New Jersey.

Seriously, what? “Given the unprecedented economic crisis and other challenges facing the state, the governor has determined that the state’s limited resources would be better utilized by focusing on other, more immediate issues facing the citizens of New Jersey,” droned a state stooge.

Sorry, what could be a better use of “the state’s limited resources” than bringing in jobs, taxes revenue and income to the Garden State through legalised sports betting? Read more.
