Two Australian government-commissioned reports are due to be made public any time now, with the expectations that they will call for relaxation of current restrictions on online gambling. Predictably, this has spawned mutterings from the usual suspects about societal collapse, but these twits haven’t quite got the sound bite skillz possessed by their Yank counterparts. For example, “you can lose your home without having to leave your house” doesn’t have quite the same zip to it as the ‘click your mouse & lose your house’ tripe that the Focus on the Family idjits like to spout, but then again, perhaps they’ve had to update it because computer mice are going the way of the floppy disk. UPDATE: The government has rejected the report’s recommendation that restrictions on the allowable types of online gambling be eased. So the answer to the question in the title would be, uh, no.
