Besides being fun and a great way to spend a night with friends, poker is also a great tool for raising money for charities. It brings people together and it loosens their wallets, because hey, its for a good cause. Jennifer Harman is currently holding her fourth annual poker tournament to raise profits for the NSPCA. In case you might be wondering what exactly the NSPCA is or does, they’re basically the protectors of animals and that pretty much sums it up. You can learn more about what they do by clicking here. Oops.

But you don’t need stars and a whole bunch of hoopla to have a successful charity poker game. Us gambling industry professionals love a good poker game, and there’s no reason why a few co-workers can’t put together their own charity poker game. Of course, just make sure its not in the state of Washington or the game might end with everyone in handcuffs.
Of course, my idea of a charity poker game might be a little different than most. For example, why not have a charity poker game with a your co-workers, with the charity being the Weekend Booze Fund. Hear this out, not only do you get to have a great night of poker with friends, but after its over, there’ll be enough money to buy a keg or get everyone nice and blitz for the weekend party. I know, it’s brilliant, sometimes things just click when your heart is in the right place.
Another charitable cause worthy of a poker tournament is what I call the Ripper Cause, or in lay man’s terms, the Make It Rain Fund. Get a couple guys and gals together for a nice tournament of strip poker and the proceeds go towards a night at the strip club. Lap dances for everyone, and what’s left can be used to, well, make it rain, what else? Hey, it’s a charitable cause in my books, strippers need money too, that’s why they’re naked.
The gambling industry is always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it be through the Calvin Ayre effort in helping the unfortunate souls in Haiti or whether it be helping that stripper pay the rent and buy those leopard print pumps, we’re glad to help, that’s just how we roll.
