It’s not so easy to make a good poker film, largely because poker is all about patience, calculating mathematical probabilty, establishing a large degree of mind-reading and, let’s be honest, spending hours on end sitting around a table bitching with a bunch of fat blokes. However, if the subject of your film is Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott than you can’t go far wrong. This, after all, is a man who went from being a Hull safecracker, to a self-made millionaire – with plenty of ups and downs – not to mention ins and outs – in between. This should be Hollywood gold, it’s just a question of getting the lead right. I’m casting True Blood lead Stephen Moyer in the young Devilfish role and, after his star turn in Sexy Beast, I’m thinking Ben Kingsley for the current day incarnation. Read more.
