LuckyNumberHorse racing gamblers in the UK aren’t big fans of mathematics, but members of the American Mathematical Society aren’t big fans of gambling, having studiously avoided Las Vegas as the site for their annual conference ever since holding it there in 1972. That said, the math geeks have a lot to say on the subject of gambling, and the superstitions that surround the intersection of numbers and luck, most of it (surprise, surprise) negative.
