It’s articles by the likes of Alabama Senator Jabo Waggoner that make you fear for the future of the United States. His panic-mongering about the dangers of a casino opening “across from your child’s school, down the road from your church or near your place of employment” miss the point horrendously. Fortunately, not everyone from the Deep South is quite so blinkered. Al.com columnist Ricky Thomason makes a great point about the moralising about gambling by religious groups in his balanced piece.
