  Fake news targets Saudi prince

The Story

When something’s too good to be true, it probably is. A viral online article claimed that Prince Majed bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud lost $359m and several wives over a six-hour gambling spree at the Sinai Grand Casino in Egypt’s Sharm El Sheik resort zone. However, this article turned out to be a hoax.

This is so absurd! Tell me more!

The online article, which appeared on satire news website World News Daily Report, claimed that the prince became so desperate for cash that he put up five of his wives in exchange for another $25m in casino credit. The prince then lost and left the casino without his wives.

This is way too funny.

Here’s the best part: the report quoted a certain casino director ‘Ali Shamoon’ saying it wasn’t the first time “a customer bets a living creature.” The report then quoted Egypt’s foreign minister claiming the wives would likely be returned to their homeland within a week, if the prince pays his dues.

But is there a real Prince Majed bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud?

There is and his real-life antics also caught the headlines. In 2015, he was accused of threatening to kill several female guests unless they had sex with him during an alleged three-day cocaine and booze bender at his $37m Beverly Hills crash pad. He was arrested, released on bail and the charges against him were dropped.

Takeaway

No matter what happens, don’t trade your wife for casino credits. Also, don’t be easily misled with fake news!
