WHEN THE NEED TO SUCCEED IS AS BAD AS THE NEED TO BREATHE, THEN YOU'LL BE SUCCESSFUL.

The Story:
Macau is on a roll as the gross gaming revenue (GGR) enjoyed double-digit growth in April, marking the ninth straight month of year-on-year improvements in the Asian gaming hub.

By how much?

Gaming revenue rose by 16.3% year-on-year to MOP 20.16b (US $2.5b). For the year-to-date, Macau’s gaming revenue totaled MOP 83.64b, up 13.8% over the same period last year.

But how does April’s GGR compare to other months?

It is actually lower. In February, Macau posted a 17.8% GGR growth while in March, the GGR growth pegged at 18.1%.

So is it safe to say that Macau will keep the trend?

Not just yet. A new report revealed that Macau’s VIP market, which contributed to the rebound of Macau’s revenue growth, is susceptible to negative news about graft on the Chinese mainland.

Anything that I need to know?

Glad you asked. Nomura analysts also warned that the Macau government’s plan to audit 126 licensed junket operators could negatively impact VIP play at Macau casinos as it could deter customers from making further deposits.

Takeaway?
Macau is on a winning streak right now but other factors could drastically impact this revenue growth.
