The Story
Iowa continues to see its sports gambling improve and slowly gain greater traction. Through the end of January, Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) reports that mobile and retail sportsbooks has a handle that now stands at $270.3 million since the activity was introduced about six months ago. Unsurprisingly, mobile wagers are getting the majority of the action, accounting for $152.4 million of the total. Nine casinos are still putting the final touches on their sports gambling plans, and DraftKings and FanDuel are going to be involved in five of these. There isn’t a huge rush to get the programs up and running as Iowa’s sports gambling bill requires anyone wishing to place online wagers to first register in person at one of the state’s casinos but this could soon change if the requirement is lifted after 18 months.
