SJM Holdings’ new Cotai resort will be made up of “80 to 90 percent” non-gaming facilities. Business Daily reports that SJM’s new resort will include low cost hotels, a performance venue and increased catering facilities designed to appeal to the mass market that is currently seeing phenomenal growth in Macau. CEO Ambrose So Shu Fai explained the 2,000 or so budget hotel rooms are aiming to capture the wider market of players and move their focus away from VIPs.
Galaxy Entertainment Group has promoted two executives to senior positions at separate Galaxy-owned resorts. The moves have seen Gabriel Hunterton become deputy chief operating officer (COO) at Galaxy Macau and Charles So take up the deputy COO role at the StarWorld Macau hotel casino. Hunterton was previously COO at StarWorld and So is promoted from his vice president of hotel operations at the same venue.
Sands China has donated some MOP2.6million to local responsible gaming counseling organizations since 2006. A release from the company states the latest donation of MOP450k went to three counseling groups on Monday and COO David Sisk commented: “Gaming in a responsible way is important to the community, and we’re happy to work with organisations helping to minimize the social impact of problem gambling.”
