Paddy Power has unveiled its latest marketing masterstroke as a huge Roy The Redeemer statue overlooking the White Cliffs of Dover. Those arriving into the U.K. by boat will see the 100ft high figure of England boss Roy Hodgson striking the pose of the iconic figure that watches over Rio De Janiero. The statue took a week to construct and Ken Robertson, spokesperson for the firm, told the Daily Mail: “Since Christ the Redeemer was constructed in Rio de Janeiro in 1931, Brazil has gone on to become the world’s leading footballing nation. We’re hoping some of that success can rub off on England in time for their Euro 2012 opener against France on Monday. Anyway, at the end of the day this is definitely the closest Roy will get to Rio this month!”
