Antonio Esfandiari and Vanessa Selbst joined Dempsey at the final table but were no match as they only managed sixth and third respectively. Second was Soi Nguyen and the result means that Dempsey not only takes the tenth anniversary WPT crown but his career earnings have now also hit $1.6million. With Sam Holden’s year to remember it’s been some 12 months for Sussex’s stable of poker players.
Native American Casino Poker Tour’s (NACPT) inaugural title will be toasted in rural Kansas. Kirk Stewart, a lifelong wheat farmer, took down the field of 324 at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Oklahoma. The 57-year-old takes the first prize of $50,000, a $1,500 WSOP-C seat along with the first NACPT trophy and his mug shot will adorn the cover of an issue of CardPlayer magazine. Stewart only took up poker three years ago and took the title after a three-way deal between himself, Jason Simon and Brandon Vise left the runners up with $45k a piece.
