MGM Springfield suffers vandalism by surprising vandal

It started with someone causing property damage at a MGM Springfield restaurant. When state troopers arrived to confront the vandal, they learned that the individual had moved into the resort’s parking garage and they followed the destruction trail to the culprit, ultimately cornered in a lobby elevator. Who they found as the criminal mind behind the activity would have certainly come as a shock to all of them. It was Marian Sullivan, the communications director for Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno.

MGM Springfield suffers vandalism by surprising vandalSullivan, according to police reports, apparently had a really good night out on the town, perhaps sipping one too many martinis or whatever potion was the flavor of the day, went on her tirade before being stopped at around 3 in the morning on Sunday. The troopers, who are stationed at the casino as part of the Gaming Enforcement Unit, “located the woman in an elevator lobby and observed her to be allegedly intoxicated,” arresting her and taking her to the State Police barracks in Springfield to sleep it off.

The 27-year-old had been – until her immediate suspension following the news of her actions – the communications director for Sarno since 2015. The mayor issued a statement yesterday morning, saying, “I’m shocked and very disturbed by the arrest of my communications director Ms. Marian Sullivan. I am hopeful that she will seek the help that she seems to need and we will be supportive of that effort.”

Perhaps there was some deep-rooted subconscious desire to lash out at MGM Springfield, and not at the cars she hit. According to Massachusetts Live, she was previously an intern at the venue and also worked in 2014 as a communications and public relations intern for the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. She also reportedly worked on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2015.

Sullivan has probably recovered from her hangover by now, which means she’ll have a clear head when she appears before a judge today. There hasn’t been any information released about how extensive her destruction was or what charges she will face, other than destruction of property, but chances are good she won’t be spending any time behind bars.
