In a move that seems to be sweeping across Macau’s casino and resort industry, MGM China and the Melco Resorts & Entertainment Group announced this weekend that they will be providing a one-time special bonus to employees. This comes on the heels of four other casinos in the area—Wynn Resorts, SJM, Sands China, and Galaxy Entertainment—also agreeing to provide bonuses to melco-resorts-mgm-china-to-provide-special-bonusesnon-management employees.

On July 6, MGM made the announcement that they would be providing the special award to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Founding of The People’s Republic of China, as well as the 20th anniversary of the institution of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the governing body for the resorts and casinos in the area.

This bonus will be awarded on September 25, and will be equal to one month’s salary for employees. It is expected that all non-executive employees will receive a special bonus, but how much of the overall employee list that includes was not provided.

The Melco Resorts also announced that they would be offering a one-time bonus to employees. This will be paid on August 30. The amount paid will be equal to one month of their base salary plus any tips should they receive them regularly. All non-executive employees will receive this bonus as well.

This announcement came just days after the Galaxy Entertainment Group announced that they would be providing a special bonus to non-executive employees of the resort and Casino. At the time, they were the fourth resort in Macau to offer the summer bonus. The special bonus would be provided for 99% of the non-management staff. They were expected to provide their bonus on August 30.

Like many of the resorts in the area, MGM China had provided a winter bonus, announced in January. This was paid in two installments, one coming at the end of January and the other in mid-February. This also went to non-management staff and has become a means by which management staff has shown appreciation for the performance of employees. Something that has been important as the casino revenues have lagged over the last year.

Several of the other resorts in the area had provided this winter bonus. This included Galaxy, Melco Resorts and Wynn Macau. Each offered a similar amount for the bonus in the winter to what will be issued later this summer by the companies.
